Earn while you learn - CEO Dr Julie Mills will be giving a talk on the what, why and how of apprenticeships at MK college 13th February.  A tour of the new Innovation and Technology Centre will be included.  Julie will also be announcing the launch of the Higher Apprenticeship for Project Management through the college.

Training attitudes and behaviours

The Dean of a management school recently said to me that it was impossible to train attitudes and behaviours in a classroom environment. I was speaking to a delegate today from my training course to TSYS in November, Jennifer Lanaway, who was kind enough to say, 'It was refreshing to be on a course that focussed on attitudes and behaviours rather than on processes. I saw a number of 'light bulb' moments from the cohort and positive changes in attitude and behaviour from my co-workers immediately after the course'. So, it is possible, we just don't focus on it sometimes.

Justifying training

I was at a breakfast briefing this morning with Martin Bean, Vice Chancellor of the Open University, and he quoted this conversation with a business owner:
'If I invest in training then people might leave'
He retorted with the re-frame:
'But if you don't invest in their development, what happens if they stay?'
